At the first meetings everybody says something polite, so when Fortune told me that work with them would not have been only business, that I was getting part of a family, with long term relationship, I didn’t care too much. After 10 years of profitable collaboration I can clearly say that never a promise was so sincere. Gen in nowadays business. Fortune is not a client, but a partner. With them you can join a team and find a family. Collaboration, synergy and friendship: can you ask for anything more from a customer?

Now almost 10 years ago our company came in contact with Fortune Gourmet in India through a common relation. After multiple discussions we sent first samples, even by plane, to get the product and packaging right. We started a supplier – client relation, in the beginning smaller quantity and not so regular. After some time, we met Mr. Jehangir Lawyer, the managing director and after he came to our plant, we confirmed our relation and the volume from then is raising year by year. In the end, the best way to express my feeling about Fortune Gourmet: it is to say to the common relation “thanks for introducing me”
ALASTAIR LYON
Export Manager @ Fayrefield Foods Ltd
Since 2011, Fayrefield Foods Ltd. has been the exclusive supplier of cheddar and hard UK cheeses to Fortune Gourmet. During this period, we have seen impressive year-on-year sales growth and succeeded in rapidly expanding our product portfolio. Being a pan-Indian company with an extensive sales team, we as the supplier are confident that Fortune can push commercial possibilities whilst the cold chain logistics channels and specialist staff ensure that quality standards are never compromised. Fortune Gourmet places great importance on that demoded, but important concept of personal relationships yet respond to the modern and changing demands of the Indian market. Fortune Gourmet is the natural partner in India.

My experience with Fortune Gourmet is mostly as a consumer. It has been bringing good quality and relatively affordable cheeses into India for a while. Something like Colliers strong cheddar, which I think is one of the Fortune handled brands, seems to be an ideal example of a good everyday cheese that actually tastes of something. Of course, there are times when you want something better and I'm glad that shops are now getting full blocks of Manchego or Pecorino whatever, and from time to time I'll stretch my budget for them, but it’s good to have affordable and decent quality cheese for more regular consumption and Fortune has helped with that. (But, to digress a bit, why is everyone only importing Wensleydale already packed with fruits? Yes, I know Wensleydale is often eaten with fruitcake and that's fine, but the plain cheese is pretty good itself so why does it have to have cranberries or whatever already pressed in?) I don't actually have that much direct experience with Jehangir. I think I've met him just a couple of times and one of them was slightly adversarial. This was at some food event where he was on stage talking about cheese and I asked a question from the audience about what Indian guidelines about pasteurisation were - I think this was at a time when there was some drama in the US about the FDA there not allowing in cheese that was not pasteurised, and really good cheese probably needs to be. I remember Jehangir got really annoyed and barked out, "Don't ask that! Don't ask that! Don't give them ideas!" (Or something on those lines). I thought that was a bit amusing and also impressive, because it showed that he was really, passionately, committed to the products he was importing and wanted to bring in the best he could get and which he thought could sell here. This whole food importing business has become so massive that you have a huge range of people involved, from guys who are just getting in containerloads filled with any damn stuff, to guys who'll go after anything that's trendy especially if there's a vague health benefit that will allow them to triple the price, to liquor imported who sometimes seem more drawn by the booze fuelled trips and so on and on. Jehangir seems to be the one food importer who is really passionate and knowledgeable about the food category he has chosen to specialize in. His getting annoyed at the thought of being hit by pasteurisation regulations showed his passion and the fact that he's probably the only Indian mentioned in the Oxford Companion to Cheese shows his knowledge and stature in the cheese world. He's managed to combine both business and his private passion and we are all the better for it

We are into Gourmet Cheese manufacturing since 2008 our starting days in cheese making and sales were very low as Gourmet cheese consumption was limited to metro cities. My First interaction with Fortune Gourmet and Mr Jehangir Lawyer was at a cheese conclave held at Hotel Lalit in Mumbai on November 13, 2014. During this conclave, Mr Lawyer tasted our cheese and he saw an opportunity as well as potential in our company. Soon we started supplying cheese to Fortune Gourmet and our sales and fortunes grew, thanks to a great and stable partnership over the years. In my opinion Mr Jehangir Lawyer has in depth knowledge in Gourmet Cheese, has often guided us in making products with authentic taste and texture due to which we have grown alongside with them over the years. The company has also made in time payments and we never faced any difficulties.

When I think to Fortune food my memory goes back to the year 2001 when Darius Lawyer, Jay’s father visited our company, I was impressed and attracted by this very nice gentleman and thought that I would have liked very much to have his company as our business partner for the Indian market. Since that time we established with Fortune a very fruitful and successful relationship. I had the pleasure to visit the Country years ago and go around Delhi area with Darius and Jehangir and had the proof of how the company Fortune is well established in the Indian market with a lot of knowledge a lot competence and with a very serious and reliable approach to the clients. Throughout the years the business has grown to current result and the personal relationship have become always more and more intense and friendly, we can now say we have a Zanetti in India and happy to be so well represented in this Country with enormous possibilities to grow further the business with mutual satisfaction.

Fortune Gourmet and The Leela, Goa, go back a long way to the mid-1990s. We were fortunate, as back then there weren't any reliable suppliers for imported cheese and salamis. The best quality of hams, cold cuts and frozen meats, seafood, among other products were from Fortune. It was their consistent year round supply, fulfilling last minute requests that helped us give our discerning guests a wide variety of high-end products. There were those initial teething years when the country's food laws framed by FSSAI complicated imports but Jehangir Lawyer offered some Indian alternatives to tide us over. Over the years Jehangir Lawyer became a respected acquaintance and friend. In the last decade many new entrants sprang up but Fortune remains The Leela's consistent partner.
